Body percussion is one of the most effective ways to develop pulse, coordination and rhythmic understanding in primary classrooms.
But structure matters.
That’s why I created the Body Percussion Modules as a progressive system — not just standalone lessons.
Module 1 has recently been updated and introduces stamp, clap and rest using quarter notes.
From there, the series develops carefully:
Module 2 introduces eighth notes and expands rhythmic vocabulary.
Module 3 adds lap pat and introduces 3-line notation, helping pupils understand layered rhythm visually.
Module 4 introduces finger snaps and moves to 4-line notation, increasing coordination and independence.
Each module includes:
Editable PowerPoint and Keynote files
Presenter notes (embedded and separate PDF)
Student rhythm-writing worksheets
Clear differentiation for KS1 and KS2
These resources are designed for:
Primary teachers
Non-specialists
Music leads
Drum teachers
Whole-class teaching
If you’ve already used Module 1, the next steps are now ready.
